DAR is a powerful command-line tool for creating highly efficient and secure backups. It intelligently applies selective compression, skipping already compressed files to save time and space. Archives can be strongly encrypted and split into manageable files for easy storage. DAR excels at differential and binary-delta backups, saving only what has changed. It supports remote transfers via FTP and SFTP to cloud storage. A key feature is the internal catalog, enabling incredibly fast restoration of individual files from massive, sliced, encrypted archives stored remotely, as DAR fetches only the necessary data. It fully preserves UNIX inode types, hard links, sparse files, Extended Attributes (like macOS file forks, Linux ACLs), and Filesystem Specific Attributes, ensuring complete data integrity.
